The original Galaxy Z Flip is the most recent handset to get updated with the December security update, patching a number of security holes that existed in the Android OS. While it might seem like ages ago, Samsung originally released the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G in 2020. When it was released, it was loaded with One UI 2.1 running Android 10. For the most part, Samsung remains fairly committed to its older devices, and thankfully, the original Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G will gain support for Android 13 through One UI 5. Although it has yet to arrive to devices around the world, the company has opened its One UI 5 beta program for Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G owners in South Korea.

When many people think about the best foldable phones, I think the idea that resides in their minds is a smartphone that can transform into a tablet. It is the ultimate blend of productivity and portability. While the technology is still young right now, in the future, the dream is that you will have a device without compromise. That means what you will have in your hand will be a powerful, compact, durable, and, most importantly, affordable foldable smartphone. Samsung is widely hailed as one of the pioneers in the foldable smartphone space, and rightfully so, as it has four iterations of its Galaxy Z Fold and also four iterations of its Galaxy Z Flip line. Millions of customers have experienced foldables in a mass-market product, and Samsung takes credit for it.

The brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is official, and if you're down with the folding flip phone field (that's right; I went there), you're probably wondering how it compares to the previous-generation model. This isn't one of those comparisons where one is better for some and the other is better for other people. Obviously, the Galaxy Flip 3 is the better product; indeed, it would be a real problem for Samsung if the newer model wasn't better than the older one.

Samsung has been doing an exceptional job of pushing Android security updates to its devices over the last few months. On several occasions, the company has released the latest security patches even before Google publishes the monthly security bulletin, and it has achieved this feat for the month of May as well. While Google will publish the May 2021 security bulletin in a couple of days, Samsung has already started rolling out the May 2021 patches to its flagship Galaxy S21 lineup. Adding on to that, the company is now rolling out similar updates for a couple of other devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the Galaxy S20 series (Exynos), and the Galaxy Note 20 series (Exynos).

The introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Fold served as both the culmination of Samsung's years-long efforts to develop a mass-market foldable phone and the start of a new trend in premium smartphones, with multiple companies releasing their own takes on a foldable phone. Whether foldable phones are here to stay, though, is a debate for another day. Still, for now, we know one thing: Samsung's recent foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold 2, show that Samsung's foldable technology has started to mature. Now, there might be a new member in the Z-series: a foldable smartphone that folds twice.
