Thanks to Google's recent efforts to improve Android on large-screen devices, Android tablets are making a comeback. The company introduced a bunch of interface changes with Android 12L to enhance user experience on Android tablets and foldables, and it has since updated several first-party apps to make better use of the extra screen real estate. Furthermore, it has laid down new guidelines to help developers build scalable apps that work well on Android tablets, resulting in the Play Store now having more apps that support native scaling on Android tablets than it has ever had before.

While Android on tablets still isn't perfect, the software has matured to a point where it's good enough for most users. As a result, a growing number of Android OEMs are entering (or re-entering) the tablet space. In addition, Google itself has released a brand-new tablet that will likely help the company further enhance the software experience. If you're looking for a new tablet and are open to purchasing one that isn't an iPad, here's our selection of the best Android tablets currently on sale.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus
Best overall

A well-rounded Android tablet experience

$781 $900 Save $119

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ is a 12.4-inch Android tablet that will offer the best performance in this space, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and S Pen support.

Pros
  • Impressive performance
  • Great high refresh rate AMOLED display
  • Feature-rich software with Samsung DeX
Cons
  • Pricey

Samsung is currently the most prominent Android tablet maker, offering a variety of options at different price points. Its flagship Galaxy Tab S8 lineup offers the best hardware money can buy, and the Plus model is our top pick overall. It packs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, a fantastic 12.4-inch high refresh rate AMOLED display, and a large 10,900mAh battery with 45W fast charging support.

The tablet offers top-notch performance, allowing you to easily play demanding games on the go or get some work done. Software-wise, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S8+ has a leg up on the competition, as One UI 5 based on Android 13 offers a ton of useful features to help you make good use of its impressive screen real estate. On top of that, Samsung DeX can further boost productivity by letting you connect an external keyboard and mouse or Samsung's official keyboard folio case to get some serious work done.

The Galaxy Tab S8+ is also fantastic for content consumption, as its display is HDR10+ certified, and its impressive quad-speaker array delivers rich, room-filling audio. The tablet also features an under-display fingerprint reader for biometric authentication, dual 13MP+6MP cameras on the back to help you take the occasional photo or video, and a 12MP selfie shooter for high-quality video calls.

The tablet comes with an S Pen in the box, so you don't have to purchase a compatible stylus separately. And One UI 5 includes some handy features that let you easily take notes, create art, and perform a plethora of other features with the stylus. The Galaxy Tab S8+ is available in both Wi-Fi-only and 5G configurations. You can get the former if you plan on using the tablet around the house or the latter if you want internet connectivity on the go.

Google Pixel Tablet
Best for most people

Impressive software, great performance, and value for money

The Google Pixel Tablet is an excellent tablet with the most polished and optimized Android software for a widescreen. The included speaker dock adds to the overall experience.

Pros
  • Feature-rich software with handy smart home controls
  • Great price
  • Included speaker dock
Cons
  • 60Hz LCD panel
  • Not the best performance
  • No cellular connectivity

The Google Pixel Tablet is inarguably the best Android tablet for most people as it promises a great software experience, top-notch performance, and a host of handy features at a relatively affordable price. It packs Google's flagship Tensor G2 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, making it great for both content consumption and productivity tasks. The software optimizations and machine learning features from Google further enhance the experience and give you access to a host of handy tools you won't get with any other Android tablet on the market.

The Pixel Tablet features a substantial 10.95-inch LCD panel that refreshes at 60Hz. While it isn't as good as the high refresh rate AMOLED panel on the Galaxy Tab S8+, it should be good enough for basic tasks like web browsing and content consumption. The tablet should also easily last you a full day of use, thanks to the onboard 27Wh battery, which you can charge using the included Charging Speaker Dock or via a USB-C charger.

The Charging Speaker Dock bundled with the Pixel Tablet gives it another significant edge over other tablets on this list, making it a great buy for content consumption and smart home controls. Google has optimized the tablet's software to show you a bunch of useful information on the screen when it's docked and give you quick access to controls for smart home devices around your house.

Other noteworthy features include two 8MP cameras for the occasional photos and high-quality video calls, a quad-speaker system for great audio output, and Google's Titan M2 chip for enhanced security. The only downside to the Pixel Tablet is that it doesn't offer cellular connectivity, so you shouldn't buy it if you plan on using it to stream content or play online games on the go.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
Best premium tablet

All the bells and whistles at a premium price

$930 $1100 Save $170

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the highest-end tablet of the company's latest flagship lineup, featuring a massive 14.6-inch screen, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and pretty much everything you could ask for.

Pros
  • Top-of-the-line hardware
  • A massive high refresh rate AMOLED display
  • Impressive software experience with DeX support
Cons
  • Costly

While the Galaxy Tab S8+ is the best Android tablet for those who want a flagship experience, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the one you should get if you want just a bit more in all aspects. It packs the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and the same speakers, though a lot of the rest of the device has been tweaked. What makes this immediately stand out from the Plus model is that it comes with up to 16GB of RAM, a massive 14.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel, and a dual front-facing camera system.

Thanks to the flagship hardware, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra offers great performance. It's great for games, content consumption, productivity tasks, multitasking, and anything else you might want to throw at it. On top of that, Samsung's optimized software experience and S Pen support make it a productivity powerhouse, even for creative professionals. As with the Galaxy Tab S8+, you also get DeX mode, allowing you to connect an external keyboard and mouse when you want to get some serious work done.

As mentioned earlier, the tablet features a dual 12MP front-facing camera system, which gives you a bit more flexibility when you're taking video calls. It also features the same rear-facing camera setup as the Plus variant, along with a quad-speaker array and both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra packs an even bigger 11,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, resulting in outstanding battery life. But to get such premium hardware, you'll have to shell out a hefty sum. To be fair, this is an overkill tablet that most people don't need, though if you want one of the largest screen tablets around and budget isn't a consideration, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra might be the one for you.

OnePlus Pad rear panel with circular camera module in Halo Green
OnePlus Pad
Best affordable flagship tablet

Top-tier hardware at a great price

The OnePlus Pad offers a sleek look and plenty of power, making it a great debut tablet from the company. It's powered by OxygenOS-based on Android 13, plus some custom software features to make everything from browsing the web to productivity a breeze.

Pros
  • Attractive price
  • Great performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Not the best software experience
  • Needs better stylus support
  • No included accessories

OnePlus is known for making some of the best Android phones and is one of the latest Android OEMs to jump on the tablet bandwagon. Its first tablet, the OnePlus Pad, is a great buy for those who want excellent performance at a reasonable price. The tablet packs MediaTek's flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, to deliver impressive performance in games, productivity tasks, multitasking, and content consumption. Its large 11.61-inch display adds to the overall fast and smooth experience, as it offers 144Hz refresh rate support and a 2800x2000p resolution.

OnePlus has cut some corners to keep the tablet's price low, like including an LCD instead of an AMOLED panel and not bundling any accessories, but that should be a fair compromise for those who only care about performance. To make up for the shortcomings, OnePlus has equipped the tablet with a 9,510mAh battery that offers all-day battery life and charges up faster than any of the other tablets on this list, thanks to the 67W fast charging support.

For imaging, the OnePlus Pad sports a 13MP rear-facing camera, which is decent enough for capturing images in brightly lit environments and capturing 4K video at 30fps. It's accompanied by an 8MP front-facing camera that supports 1080p video capture at 30fps, which is great for video calls. Like most of the other premium Android tablets currently on the market, the OnePlus Pad features a quad-speaker setup that delivers impressive audio output. You also get stylus support and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

Like the Pixel Tablet, the OnePlus Pad lacks cellular connectivity. However, the feature is available — just currently disabled. So it shouldn't be your preferred pick if you plan on using the tablet on the go with an active internet connection. But if that's not the case, the OnePlus Pad is a great Android tablet for the price.

lenovo-p11-pro-gen-2
Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2
Best mid-range tablet

An affordable tablet for light workloads

The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is a decent tablet for media consumption and basic tasks, packing a MediaTek Kompanio 1300T, up to 6GB of RAM, and an 8,200 mAh battery. It runs Android 12L, too.

Pros
  • Great for media consumption and web browsing
  • Decent battery life
  • Precision stylus support
Cons
  • Not the best performance
  • Below-average cameras

The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is really as good as it gets for a tablet with mid-range specifications. Lenovo is a pretty big fish in the Android ecosystem, being the parent company of Motorola and also making some smartphones of its own. The company occasionally makes tablets, and the Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is currently the best one in its lineup. Featuring an 11.5-inch OLED display and internals such as a MediaTek Kompanio 1300T and up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is decidedly a mid-range device at heart, but it excels in aspects such as display quality and battery life.

The Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 is the perfect buy for those who just want a large-screen device for media consumption, thanks to its high-resolution display and large battery life. While it isn't the best performer, the Kompanio 1300T is decent enough for light workloads like web browsing, checking emails, and playing casual arcade games. The tablet features a 13MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP selfie shooter. These cameras might seem like they're as good as the ones on the OnePlus Pad, but the actual camera performance isn't all that great, and you should keep your expectations in check.

The Lenovo Pad P11 Pro Gen 2 runs Android 12L, features 20W fast charging, and is a great media consumption device. Lenovo is trying to fill a gap here since there are relatively very few actual tablets with these specifications, and it's done that well. While we would've liked to see improvements in its software, it's a great option in this spec range. If you can get a good deal on it, then it just gets even better.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8
Best budget tablet

Entry-level hardware at an attractive price

$199 $230 Save $31

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is a decent offering from Samsung in the budget space, with a 1920 x 1200 TFT LCD panel, a Unisoc T618 chipset, respectable internal specifications, and an excellent price tag to match.

Pros
  • Very affordable
  • Decent display
Cons
  • Unisoc chipset
  • Base model only has 32GB of storage

Samsung doesn't just make flagship tablets. In fact, flagship tablets are actually a rather new venture for the company, given that the Galaxy Tab lineup has been going since 2010. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 belongs to Samsung's lineup of lower-end tablets. And honestly? It's not bad, especially if you just want a cheap Android device with a large screen to stream media.

The Galaxy Tab A8 features a 10.5-inch TFT LCD panel with a 1920x1200p resolution, which is decent enough to enjoy TV shows and movies when you're on the go. Like the more premium Samsung tablets, it also has a quad-speaker setup that makes watching content much more enjoyable. It packs an entry-level Unisoc T618 chipset that offers just enough performance for HD streaming, but it's not the best if you want to play games or get some work done on the tablet. The SoC is paired with 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage, and a 7,040mAh battery with 15W wired charging support.

On the software front, the Galaxy Tab A8 is updateable to One UI 5 based on Android 13, so you get all the software goodies you get on the premium Galaxy tablets. However, given its Unisoc SoC and 4GB of RAM, you won't be able to make good use of the multitasking features to improve productivity. But that's a sacrifice you'll have to make if you want to buy a table under $200. If you just want a basic Android tablet with a big display and a decent set of speakers, and you don't care for the other bells and whistles, the Galaxy Tab A8 is the perfect option for you.

amazon-fire-hd-10-plus
Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus
Best for media

A portable media streaming device

Amazon's newest Fire HD 10 Plus tablet is an amazing option for anyone looking to buy a tablet for watching videos, tuning into video calls, and more. The newest model adds features like wireless charging and still manages to keep the price in check.

Pros
  • Cheap but decent
  • Integrates with your Amazon account
  • Moddable
Cons
  • No Google apps

If you're looking for a seamless Android experience like the one you'll get in a smartphone, Amazon's Fire tablets are not a viable option to look into. While the software is Android-based, you don't get Google services, and you won't be able to grab apps from the Play Store, not to mention that the internals are barely up to spec, meaning that anything intensive you're planning to do might be a less than stellar experience. But Amazon is not selling you these tablets for that. It's meant for you to watch movies, TV series, and videos, and for that, the Fire HD 10 Plus is a great, budget-friendly pick.

The highlighting feature of the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is its 10.1-inch 1920x1299p IPS display. It's decent enough for enjoying content from your favorite streaming services, but it doesn't offer great outdoor visibility or any premium features. On the inside, the tablet packs a MediaTek Helio P60T SoC and 4GB of RAM. The internals are just capable enough to play videos, and you'll have to deal with frequent stutters if you do anything more performance intensive.

The Fire HD 10 Plus also packs a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP selfie shooter, and stereo speakers that offer decent audio output. You also get Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0 to connect external speakers or headphones, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. As far as the battery life and charging are concerned, the tablet can last up to 10 hours on a single charge and offers wireless charging support.

Its media streaming capabilities and affordable price tag are the only reasons why the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus has made the cut on our selection of the best Android tablets. You should only pick one up if you want a cheap and portable media streaming device, but if you want to do anything else, you'd be better off with the Galaxy Tab A8.

A render of the Amazon Fire HD 8 Pro kids tablet in blue color.
Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro
Best for children

An affordable ruggedized tablet for kids

The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is probably the best balance of performance, price, size, and durability for children aged 6 to 12, with a quad-core CPU running at 2.0 GHz, up to 32 GB of storage, and an 8-inch display for playing some light games

Pros
  • Rugged
  • Decent display
  • Child-friendly design
Cons
  • No Google apps
  • Can't run high-end games

Finally, if you're a parent and want to get your kid their first tablet, the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is an excellent option. We chose the HD 8 version because we think that it's the sweet spot between specifications, storage, size, and pricing for most kids. Specs-wise, it's pretty much an Amazon Fire HD 8. One of the differences between the Pro model over the regular Amazon Kids Tablets is it doesn't come with an overly thick case. Instead, it is a thinner but still durable kids-friendly case to protect against drops and bumps, and it also comes with an adjustable kickstand. Amazon also offers a 2-year "worry-free" warranty, meaning that if your kid manages to break it, you can return it, and Amazon will replace it for free.

The Fire HD 8 Kids Pro features an 8-inch IPS panel with a 1280x800p resolution, MediaTek's entry-level MT8169A SoC, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It offers an all-day battery that lasts up to 13 hours on a single charge, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, and Bluetooth 5.2 support. The tablet comes with a free subscription to Amazon Kids+ for a year, which will give your child access to a wide range of content from services like National Geographic, Marvel, Lego, Audible, and Disney. It also includes a bunch of free games, but the tablet's specifications aren't enough for anything demanding.

Like the Fire HD 10 Plus, you don't get access to Google services with the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, so you can't download apps from the Play Store. While that may be a downside for some, it could also be a boon as you won't have to worry about any pesky parental controls. The Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet comes with the software setup for kids over the age of nine, and while there are still plenty of parental controls, the interface will be closer to what you see on a non-kids tablet. If you have younger kids, you can go for the standard kid's tablet, and when they get older, enable the appropriate age level in the settings.

Our favorite Android tablets in 2023

Samsung has been the king of Android tablets for quite some time now. The Galaxy Tab S8 series can check the box for all users regardless of their use case. While the Tab S8 Ultra is the tablet for the most demanding users, the Tab S8+ is our favorite pick as it strikes a great balance between performance and price.

New Project-9
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus
Best overall
$781 $900 Save $119

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ is a 12.4-inch Android tablet that will offer the best performance in this space, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and S Pen support.

With the Galaxy Tab S8+, you get an impressive, high refresh rate AMOLED display that's great for gaming and content consumption, a powerful Qualcomm chipset that can blaze through even the most demanding of tasks, an optimized software experience with DeX mode and handy S Pen features, and exceptional battery life. The tablet is also reasonably priced for the hardware and features on offer, landing it in the top spot. But if you think it's a bit on the expensive side for you, you can also consider the Google Pixel Tablet and the OnePlus Pad.

The Pixel Tablet is a fantastic tablet for its price, offering flagship-level performance, a great software experience, an included speaker dock, and handy smart home features. But it doesn't feature a high refresh rate display, making it a bad pick for gaming. That's where the OnePlus Pad's 144Hz display takes the cake, and you should get it over the Pixel Tablet if you want to enjoy games like Genshin Impact on a big screen.
